Have you seen this man?

January 25, 2010 by EP

The Downtown Dallas scene is not without it’s shortcomings. Now don’t get me wrong, I love it here, but there are some things I would change. Stalkers.

There is a guy who has been down here since I first moved Downtown who is a real problem. When someone first meets him, he seems to be maybe a little eccentric, but harmless. If you pay him any attention at all, he soon becomes something all together different.

I have seen him behave in a manor that I can only describe as that of a stalker. In fact,  four or five years ago he was charged and tried for harassment which is the legal term for stalking. He plead and was found not guilty, but as we all know, the Grand Jury would not have bound him over for trial had there not been sufficient evidence to do so. Harassment is one of the hardest crimes to get a conviction for, for many of the same reasons that rape is. That doesn’t mean that the defendant didn’t do something socially objectionable.

There is no reason to name this person. He is well known to all who live here.

This is no bull!

July 16, 2008 by EP

I was reading about Barenaked Ladies singer Steve Page and his cocaine bust this morning and I noticed something.

He was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree, a class C felony in New York state. That’s a pretty complicated crime, I mused. I wonder how many degrees there are? Read the rest of this entry »

This Stella’s for you?

What will be the far-reaching consequences if InBev is successful in it’s merger with Anheuser-Busch?

For one thing, the ad-guys will have to come up with a new jingle. On the other hand, if the Belgians have any sense of humor at all, they’ll keep the singing frogs just to piss off their buddies to the south.

On a more serious note, what are the implications for Dallas? Read the rest of this entry »

Here’s an interesting item…

July 14, 2008 by EP

The WWW is ubiquitous. For those of you that consider a lounge a “lifestyle”, that means it’s everywhere. I noticed something the other day that I have to call a first. On the website of Clear Ultra Lounge, which is very slick, by the way, maybe the word I’m looking for is slippery, But I digress…. Read the rest of this entry »

One couldn’t help but notice…

July 8, 2008 by DH

that Downtown was a little quieter this last weekend. I for one am glad that downtown Dallas was not considered a 4th of July destination.

Even our infamous ultralounges weren’t doing their normal business. Not bad, mind you, but not the normal boom. With one exception, that is.

Clear Ultra Lounge, maintaining a current trend, seemed particularly desolate. Read the rest of this entry »

A Slick Way to Fool TABC

July 2, 2008 by EP

You know, it’s illegal to over-serve a patron in a bar. The bar owner can avoid liability if the bartender is TABC certified and the owner/manager is not personally aware of the violation or does not order the bartender to over-serve. I think it would be criminally negligent for the owner/manager not to be aware of his employees actions. Read the rest of this entry »

New Dart Train Scam

I swear, if the homeless people spent as much time pursuing a real job as they spend dreaming up schemes to separate people from their spare change, they wouldn’t be homeless. Read the rest of this entry »

This is interesting…

June 30, 2008 by EP

So, I finally signed up for online banking with Wells Fargo. I know, I’m retarded. I’m hooked now, so everyone quit bugging me about it, okay?

It’s scary when you can easily see where all your money goes. I eat most of my meals at home, or at least at someone’s home, but check out that Restaurant column! Click! Oh, well, bars are considered restaurants, also. I never drink alone, so most of the alcohol I consume is from a bar. That makes more sense now.

But, hey, here’s something interesting… by comparing my debit card receipts against the charges I can see online, I see a discrepancy. Read the rest of this entry »
