This is interesting…

June 30, 2008

So, I finally signed up for online banking with Wells Fargo. I know, I’m retarded. I’m hooked now, so everyone quit bugging me about it, okay?

It’s scary when you can easily see where all your money goes. I eat most of my meals at home, or at least at someone’s home, but check out that Restaurant column! Click! Oh, well, bars are considered restaurants, also. I never drink alone, so most of the alcohol I consume is from a bar. That makes more sense now.

But, hey, here’s something interesting… by comparing my debit card receipts against the charges I can see online, I see a discrepancy. (more…)

I’ve got a prediction…

June 29, 2008

Not one to let DH have all the fun, I will make a guess of my own. Actually, I’m pretty good at measuring the pulse of Everyman. I seem to have a knack for just knowing whether or not something is going to appeal to a lot of people. By the way, I believe modesty to be a waste of energy.

The new sushi joint on Elm is sure to be short lived. I’m talking about Sushi Ya, at 1306 Elm Street. (more…)

And Scene…

June 29, 2008

Well, the only regret I have about the closing of Scene is that I didn’t sucker more people into betting me about how long it would survive. Seriously, did anyone think it would last? (more…)

You Don’t Call, You Don’t Write…

June 29, 2008

The only Dallas patron more fickle than a restaurant patron must surely be the club patron. The so-called ultralounge scene Downtown is very young, about a year old. Before you remind me that obar has been here forever, I’ll comment that I don’t consider obar to be truly an “ultralounge” even though I’ll occasionally include them in the list. It looks like we are already witnessing the passing of one of the herd. (more…)

Dastardly Deeds Downtown

June 28, 2008

I’ll share the story of a recent tragedy that I opine is a direct result of the ultralounge scourge. (more…)

It’s Clear to Me

June 28, 2008

Saturday, it is easy for thoughts to drift to Friday night.

I believe that one of the major hurdles Downtown has to clear is one of achieving critical mass. There are perhaps two masses that we must optimize. (more…)

Deep Culture

June 28, 2008

If you are looking for something to do tonight you could check out the art show, 7 pm to 2 am, at Club Dada. There is a $10 cover at the door and like last month, there will be live music, poetry, body painting, etc. as well as the art. Most if not all the artists live downtown, so go over and see what your neighbors are doing. (more…)

Mourn a Passing

June 27, 2008

Parting is such sweet sorrow. This month marks the passing of a Downtown legend. (more…)

Urban Market Takes Disturbing Turn

June 27, 2008

I’ve lived within the CBD in Dallas since, I guess you could say, before it was cool. Those of you familiar with the changes going on in our fair city probably know what I mean. If you are new to Downtown (I’m going to capitalize it when I’m speaking of downtown Dallas, TX) then you’ll just have to live with the rest of us thinking of you as newbies. (more…)
