This is no bull!

July 16, 2008

I was reading about Barenaked Ladies singer Steve Page and his cocaine bust this morning and I noticed something.

He was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree, a class C felony in New York state. That’s a pretty complicated crime, I mused. I wonder how many degrees there are? (more…)

This Stella’s for you?

July 16, 2008

What will be the far-reaching consequences if InBev is successful in it’s merger with Anheuser-Busch?

For one thing, the ad-guys will have to come up with a new jingle. On the other hand, if the Belgians have any sense of humor at all, they’ll keep the singing frogs just to piss off their buddies to the south.

On a more serious note, what are the implications for Dallas? (more…)

Here’s an interesting item…

July 14, 2008

The WWW is ubiquitous. For those of you that consider a lounge a “lifestyle”, that means it’s everywhere. I noticed something the other day that I have to call a first. On the website of Clear Ultra Lounge, which is very slick, by the way, maybe the word I’m looking for is slippery, But I digress…. (more…)

One couldn’t help but notice…

July 8, 2008

that Downtown was a little quieter this last weekend. I for one am glad that downtown Dallas was not considered a 4th of July destination.

Even our infamous ultralounges weren’t doing their normal business. Not bad, mind you, but not the normal boom. With one exception, that is.

Clear Ultra Lounge, maintaining a current trend, seemed particularly desolate. (more…)

A Slick Way to Fool TABC

July 2, 2008

You know, it’s illegal to over-serve a patron in a bar. I think it would be criminally negligent for the owner/manager not to be aware of his employees actions. (more…)

This is interesting…

So, I finally signed up for online banking with Wells Fargo. I know, I’m retarded. I’m hooked now, so everyone quit bugging me about it, okay?

It’s scary when you can easily see where all your money goes. I eat most of my meals at home, or at least at someone’s home, but check out that Restaurant column! Click! Oh, well, bars are considered restaurants, also. I never drink alone, so most of the alcohol I consume is from a bar. That makes more sense now.

But, hey, here’s something interesting… by comparing my debit card receipts against the charges I can see online, I see a discrepancy. (more…)

I’ve got a prediction…

June 29, 2008

Not one to let DH have all the fun, I will make a guess of my own. Actually, I’m pretty good at measuring the pulse of Everyman. I seem to have a knack for just knowing whether or not something is going to appeal to a lot of people. By the way, I believe modesty to be a waste of energy.

The new sushi joint on Elm is sure to be short lived. I’m talking about Sushi Ya, at 1306 Elm Street. (more…)

And Scene…

June 29, 2008

Well, the only regret I have about the closing of Scene is that I didn’t sucker more people into betting me about how long it would survive. Seriously, did anyone think it would last? (more…)
